Wijster is an esdorp centrally located in the province of Drenthe. The tranquility and the vastness of this area are unique. The village has existed since the early 13th century and has approximately 1000 inhabitants. It is a self sufficient village featuring a supermarket, a snack bar, a hair salon, a vibrant association life, a sports hall, and a public primary school. All other amenities are available in the nearby village of Beilen, which is just a five minute drive away.
The farmhouse was originally built around 1900. The previous owners extensively renovated the building under architectural supervision starting in 1991. The current resident has carried out various restorations and modernizations since 2015. With a keen eye for detail, much attention has been paid to preserving the authentic atmosphere without compromising modern comfort. The front part of the house was renovated and fitted with floor insulation and underfloor heating, and the kitchen was also modernized. The thatched roof was replaced in 2016, and the roof of the adjacent barn was replaced in 2020. Additionally, the central heating boiler was replaced in 2024 and 32 solar panels were installed. Additional technical details include that the roof of the house has a closed ridge constructed with Spano plates and new thatched roofing from 2016. The roof is well maintained and was rinsed and injected in 2025. The barn roof was replaced in 2020, utilizing similar Spano roof plates with a thatched and partially tiled covering. The kitchen was renovated in 2022 and offers an authentic and cozy ambiance. There are 32 solar panels present, with a production of 8540 kWh in the past year. The home has central heating (CV boiler from 2024) with radiators and underfloor heating in the front section. A decorative wood stove is present in the living room. The electrical panel and piping have been updated to accommodate the kitchen and an electric vehicle. There is ample parking on the property for approximately four to five cars.
