Description

Located in the village of Schimmert, which is one of the highest situated villages in the Netherlands, this property offers a unique and voluminous living experience. The building is a former school that provides the possibility for a home office or practice space at home. The structure was originally built in 1938 and functioned as the Roman Catholic boys' school until 2010, known as the Remigiushuis. It is important to note that this property should not be confused with the nearby Remigiushoeve. The construction history of the school building shows that it was originally built with five classrooms. Due to the increasing number of children in the past, an extension was realized later, adding an extra classroom and sanitary facilities. In the 1970s, the extension was enlarged because of the new function as a social facility. Based on old photographs, the building has been restored as closely as possible to its old state. After the demolition of the last extension, the old walls were placed back on the existing foundation. The wooden window frames were remade in the original style and the garden wall with gate on the street side has been brought back to its original state.

Fortunately, many original elements have been preserved, ranging from colorful stained glass windows to wall and floor tiles. For years, many children's feet have walked through the porch, hall, and corridor towards the classrooms. The classrooms at the front are now used as a living room and master bedroom, featuring high ceilings and beautiful light incidence through the large windows. The rear part of the building has a loft-like layout with a living room, kitchen, and one or possibly two sleeping spaces. This area is also ideal to mention and to use as a workspace or playroom for children. Furthermore, there is a storage or laundry room, a bathroom, and a utility room created at the place of the toilet groups. The attic above with beautiful trusses offers the possibility to realize multiple bedrooms and bathrooms.

General specifications include a construction year of 1938. The user surface area for living is substantial, and the plot surface area is large. Acceptance is in consultation. The property has an energy label. Regarding facilities, there is an extensive group installation for electricity, water connection, gas connection, sewer connection, and TV connection via cable. On the other side of the corridor are the utility room, bathroom, a storage or laundry room, and a toilet room. The bathroom is very light and spatially arranged with stylish tiling, special taps, and beautiful sanitary ware. It is not exuberant but restrained and of high quality. You have access to a wall closet, urinal, two washbasins, a freestanding bath, and a spacious walk-in shower. In the utility room, under the marble top with a gold-colored sink, there is space for a dishwasher. The storage room, also with a sink, offers space for the washing appliances. Both rooms are strikingly light thanks to large windows in the side wall.

At the beginning of the hall, opposite the former director's room, is the toilet room with an original Granito floor. The director's room, with beautiful built-in cupboards, is currently in use as a double bedroom. The classrooms at the front are used as a living room and office space, both of large format. Beautiful elements in the living room are the fixed cupboards, the colorful stained glass, and the wooden floor.

Under the beautiful roof with trusses is an impressive attic space that is in use as storage and a hobby room. Given the floor area and the high ridge, it is possible to realize extra bedrooms and bathrooms here. Or perhaps you want to give this enormous space a different purpose.

The garden is accessible through multiple patio doors, including those in the corridor. The beautiful garden features the preserved garden wall. What used to be a playground is now a garden with a large lawn and beautiful trees. Privacy is abundantly present, as is the warmth of the sun, and from different positions, one has the possibility to admire the beautiful school building. The front garden, with two beautiful trees and the restored garden wall, is also more than worth a visit. There is parking for two cars on the property near the left part of the plot. For the gravel path on the right side, there is a right of way towards the transformer house and the ramp post. Via this path, you reach the spacious garage or shed where the residents currently park their car.

The location of Schimmert is very central in South Limburg with excellent connecting roads towards Maastricht, Heerlen, and Sittard, among others via the nearby A2 and A76 motorways.
